Don't Worry, Be Happy

Tonight we met some neighbors at good ol' Golden Corral for their 4-year old's birthday dinner. We met at 6:30PM and the boys are usually in bed between 6:30 and 7PM, so this was a bit of a stretch. We all most certainly enjoyed the food--plenty of butter on everything and the rolls were dang good. Bode ate a ton. Apparently I just need to present him with a nightly smorgasbord and he'll get the nutrients he needs...

But Bode was so very tired. And when he gets tired he gets WIRED and a wee bit, um, is psycho too strong? He was so totally out of his mind that he actually BIT me. Just through my jeans and not very hard. Is that how animals communicate their exhaustion? Erin, do you do this?

Doug had to go back to work (he met us there) after dinner, so I carted the crazed-ones home and got them to bed. Keegen passed out on the bottle. There was a barely audible, "Oh. Thank. God." when I laid him down in his crib. As for Bode, well, crazy-wired-one was a bit more of a challenge...

So wired, that just the simple task of changing into jammies became a deliriously funny (to HIM) game. Which I wasn't really interested in playing. I finally told him to knock it off before I lost my sense of humor and started getting angry with him. He stopped, looked at me in all seriousness and said, "Mo-o-o-m-m-m-m-y! Just be happy!!"

I kid you not.

So there's my lesson of the day. So simple. So true. From the mouth of a babe.

Awesome. Jeffy often asks if I'm happy now before he asks for anything he wants. Or he'll tell me he wants to be happy while he's bawling his eyes out. If only it were a simple choice--but I suppose it is!

Yeah, past 7pm with Ben anywhere is no fun. How funny that he had a completely lucid moment to tell you to be happy!! Very cute!! :)

Bless his heart. They are so sensitive and truthful. Good for you for noticing and learning. That's the hard part.

well, i haven't resorted to biting in my exhausted state... HOWEVER, i'm sure if i was bitten, i would have no problem biting back!

Ha! My kids have that SAME issue with the being out after 7pm. You should have SEEN Preston and Xavier after enrichment last night. LUNATIC. I feel for you Ashlee, because when we get home after a night like that, I am DONE. EVERYONE IN BED!!!

So funny! Ashtyn is always telling me, "mommy don't be mad at me". I have to laugh every time. She also says, "I'm happy now" and gives her best smile if she is crying and I'm fed up. What we go through huh?
